About the role
Audio describers make films, theater, and other visual events accessible to people with visual impairments. They verbally describe what is happening on stage or screen, often through a headset. Training in audio description is available, but experience in areas such as drama, language, and communication is also relevant.Responsibilities
Audio describers analyze and prepare material to be able to deliver a clear and accurate description of visual elements. They must be synchronized with the event and deliver the information in a way that does not disturb the experience. Adapting the language to the target audience and the character of the event is an important part of the work.Skills and tools
Audio describers need excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to quickly interpret visual scenes into speech. They use technical aids such as microphones and headsets. Empathy, a good sense of language, and the ability to work under time pressure are central qualities.
