About the role
Maternity midwives are specialized in maternal and childbirth care. They have completed a midwifery education after their basic nursing degree. They often work in maternity wards at hospitals, but can also be active in outpatient care and home births.Responsibilities
Maternity midwives monitor and support women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the early postpartum period. They identify and manage complications, provide advice and support to prospective parents. Their work also includes leading childbirths and ensuring the health of newborn babies.Skills and tools
Maternity midwives must have good knowledge in obstetrics and gynecology and be skilled in patient communication. They use medical equipment such as CTG to monitor the fetal condition and manage medications for pain relief. Empathy, decision-making ability, and the ability to handle acute situations are central skills.
