About the role
Salvage divers are specialized divers who work on recovering objects from water. They often have undergone diving training and additional specialized training in salvage and underwater work. Their work requires knowledge of diving techniques, safety procedures, and sometimes even knowledge of archaeology and environmental legislation.Responsibilities
Salvage divers perform searches for and recovery of objects, vessels, or other materials that have ended up under the water surface. They are responsible for planning and conducting diving operations in a safe and efficient manner. Risk assessment, documentation of findings, and collaboration with other professional groups such as archaeologists or police are part of their job duties.Skills and tools
Salvage divers must master diving equipment such as regulators, diving suits, and underwater tools. They often use advanced technology like sonar to locate objects and may also use lifting balloons to recover heavy items. Good physical condition, problem-solving ability, and the ability to work under pressure are important qualities.
