About the role
Senior judges, known as 'Hovrättsråd', work at one of Sweden's Courts of Appeal. They have completed legal education and often have extensive experience from the judicial system or other qualified legal activities. Hovrättsråd often serve as judges who make decisions in cases and matters.Responsibilities
Hovrättsråd handle and decide cases that have been appealed from the district courts. They lead negotiations, write verdicts and decisions, and ensure that the legal process follows laws and regulations. They also have a mentoring role for younger lawyers and law clerks.Skills and tools
Hovrättsråd must have in-depth knowledge of law, especially within the legal areas that the Court of Appeal handles. They need a good ability to analyze complex information and make well-founded decisions. Communication skills and integrity are also central attributes.
