Sustainability

Active environmental choices
Plejd's most active environmental choices are of course the products they create. Their energy-saving products in home automation give users the opportunity to control, for example, lighting and heat pumps easily and smoothly from their phone, which reduces the use of electricity and energy as things only need to be on when they are needed. With several ISO certifications in the production facilities and various environmental standards and environmental policies to comply with, Plejd is constantly thinking about how their work affects the environment and the climate. They have a constant open discussion about production and how it can be changed to reduce the climate footprint. The most important points they relate to in their environmental policy and in their product creation are:Developing products with a long lifespanMinimizing transport by having a local production that is close to the marketRequires that suppliers follow Swedish law and environmental policies in the industryUse consumables and packaging materials that are easy to recycle
Diversity
As a tech company, Plejd, like many others, find it difficult to attract women to the most technical roles. Among the approx. 180 employees at the company, 25%, are women, but it differs in the different departments. Some departments have none at all, while others have more, for example marketing, sales etc. The department with the most even distribution of women and men is mechanics, where it's currently 50/50.

Personal development

Plejd sees themselves as a company characterized by openness, curiosity and freedom and therefore ensures that their employees have every opportunity to succeed in their work. They do this by being generous with training efforts and special efforts, especially for those in more technical roles. In order to give their employees opportunities to develop, they work actively to be a real makerspace environment by having their own workshop with 3D printers and other production tools where the employees can spend time building their own projects and testing new technologies, both for private use but also to promote knowledge that can further be used at company level. On most Thursday evenings, some employees meet up for a little hangout at the office where they eat pizza, build exciting things and play around in the maker environment. Mentorship is a natural part of Plejd and is applied on a daily basis as the company is characterized by creativity and knowledge sharing. New employees who join larger teams are assigned a senior mentor during the first period, but most teams are so small that a general mentoring and knowledge sharing is applied in the work and the thresholds for asking for and receiving help are low. At Plejd, they also provide opportunities to grow and develop further and to move within the organization. Among the 20 teams that exist, many overlap, which makes it easy to migrate internally, which Plejd sees very positively as this contributes to the competence remaining within the business.
